WILLOW WOOD — Don’t let me down.
And they didn’t.
After a defensive meltdown last Monday against New Boston, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings maintained their defensive effort in a 66-40 rout of the South Gallia Lady Rebels Thursday.
“We had a defensive letdown in the fourth quarter on Monday against New Boston and we didn’t want to let that happen again,” Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said.
The defensive pressure by the Lady Vikings generated an amazing 32 steals. Kayla Saunders and Megan Coomes had seven steals each, Rebecca Capper five and Tiffany Bryant four.
“We felt we could come out and set the pace with a fullcourt press and our defensive pressure was tough,” coach Bryant said.
Capper led the offense as she scored a career-high 26 points. Bryant scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
“Capper had a complete game. Tiffany Bryant is coming around for us on both ends of the floor. Saunders and Coomes played a swarming defense,” coach Bryant said.
Chelsea Canaday had 11 points to lead South Gallia.
Symmes Valley (7-4) jumped on the Rebels in the first quarter and took a 25-6 lead. The Lady Vikings stretch the lead to 43-21 at the half and put the game out of reach in the third quarter by going ahead 64-29.
