AID — It was a good day at the office for Mandi Estep.
The senior pitcher for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings pitched a four-hitter and had three hits in a 3-1 win over the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
“Mandi had a great performance for us. She kept the ball low and we got a lot of ground outs. We got some timely hits and we were able to score a couple of runs,” Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep said.
Estep struck out seven and walked two in going the distance. Symmes Valley is now 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the SOC.
“This league is going to be tough. There are four teams who are capable of winning the league,” coach Estep said.
Symmes Valley took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Estep singled to start the inning, Emily Bowling was hit by a pitch and Megan Coomes walked to load the bases.
Tasha Pointer walked to force Estep home and Libby Ash hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Lady Vikings added a run in the second inning when Estep had a two-out double and Bowling followed with a base hit.
Notre Dame got a run in the third inning on a double by Pick and single by Sayre.
The Vikings play at Portsmouth Clay Monday in a battle for first place in the league.
