WILLOW WOOD — There’s a reason the Symmes Valley Vikings scored 84 points. Actually, there’s four reasons.

Four players scored in double figures as the Vikings raced past the New Boston Tigers 84-55 Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Michael Humphreys had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Vikings onslaught. Seth Saunders had

a career-high 14 points while Kyle Meadows scored 11 points and Matt Owens 10. Meadows also had 11 rebounds.

“Offensively, we played better than we have all season. We played really well defensively in the third quarter,” Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter said.

Meadows scored eight points in the first quarter to stake the Vikings to a 20-15 lead.

Humphreys scored 10 points as the Vikings pulled away to 43-31 halftime lead.

Owens got eight of his 10 points in the third quarters and the defense limited New Boston to eight points as the spread increased to 69-39.

“It was nice to get some balance on offense,” Carpenter said. “And we did a good job on the boards.”

The Vikings (4-7, 4-4 SOC) grabbed 49 rebounds as a team. Meadows also had eight rebounds for the Vikings.

New Boston was led by Josh Holbrook and Tony Musick with nine points each.
