An armed robber made a quick getaway early Monday but his escape didn't last long.
Carl E. Davis, 43, 729 Depot St., Ironton, was arrested at approximately noon Monday in the alley
between Eighth and Ninth streets near Quincy Street for aggravated robbery, a felony charge.
A white male carrying a gun robbed the Speedway gas station at Eighth Street and Park Avenue in Ironton at 1:30 a.m. Monday. The suspect fled the store by unknown means.
“The suspect went in the store, approached the clerk, pulled up his shirt and showed her a gun,” said Ironton Police Det. Jim Akers. “He then took an undetermined amount of money and fled.”
Surveillance cameras led police to Davis being the suspect, Akers said.
“We were going to a place we thought he might be. He saw us and cut over to the alley,” Akers said. “That is where he was arrested.”
Davis was transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
