Car enthusiasts get ready for winter

CHESAPEAKE - Winter is coming, with its rain, sleet and snow - so car enthusiasts think now is a good time to get the car ready for the upcoming chilly season.

The air had a bit of a chill to it on Friday afternoon, but Frank White and Charlie Pike of Southern Detail in Chesapeake were hard at work - and busy, too. With the lack of sunshine and the cooler temperatures, one would think that people would not be as concerned with keeping their cars in pristine condition, but White said they are, and with good reason.

&#8220If it's got a good paint job on it and you want it to stay good, you need to wax it at least twice a year,” White said.

The wax, according to White, keeps the snow from eating through the paint job. He said this is actually a busy time for the business, because many people wax their vehicles this time of year, before the winter season sets in.

Marlon Rogers of South Point was having one of his cars done on Friday afternoon, and he agreed about the importance of preparing vehicles for the cold weather.

Rogers said he brings his cars to Southern Detail frequently. He said having vehicles washed and waxed was extremely important - he compared it to the same attention a person would give the upkeep on their house.

White said that waxing a car twice a year, keeps the paint from deteriorating and could actually save the owner a paint job.

He said the wax lasts about six months, so it is a good idea to wax the car twice a year, once in spring and once before winter.

&#8220This time of year, no one wants to wash their own cars - it is cold,” he said. &#8220We're open year round.”
