As if a benefit poker run and dance weren't enough, a few local citizens are now mounting an auction to help an Ironton High graduate injured in a motorcycle accident in March.
Locals Rick McKnight, Ed Whitworth, Mark Howard, Charlie Kellar and Greg Pennington are still looking for a ways to raise money for Eric Wipert, who is still being treated for his injuries in Cincinnati.
As part of the ”Erin's Aid“ effort, McKnight's group is now asking residents for donations that they can auction off at noon at Shenanigan's on Oct. 15.
The organizers said most any items will be accepted, though they're attempting to stay away from clothing items (not-withstanding leather jackets and other high-dollar garments.) All funds will be donated to the Wipert family.
Later that day, a benefit dance will be hosted by the Knights of Columbus at 6 p.m. featuring local bands like The Flat Stanley Project, Awesome City Limits, and Third Shift.
”It expanded,“ McKnight said. ”We wanted to do two weekends instead of one, and when the K.O.C. offered us their hall, and the bands volunteered to play, we decided to go that route.“
McKnight encourages even those who won't be doing an bidding to come to any of the Erin's Aid events.
”We're going to have fun, that's all,“ McKnight said. ”It will not be stuffy,
I can promise you that.“
Donations for the auction can be dropped off at Spriggs Distributing and McCauley's Furniture until 5 p.m. and Shenanigan's after 3 p.m. More information is available by calling Mary Dickess at (740) 646-2333 or McKnight at (304) 525-8011.
