There are 21 outs in a regulation softball game. Tracy Mays took care of all

but three of them.

Mays racked up a career-high 18 strikeouts Thursday as she pitched a one-hitter to lead the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers to a 5-1 win over the Wayne (W.Va.) Lady Pioneers.

"Tracy is really pitching well," Ironton coach Marissa Fields said. "The girls were aggressive on the bases tonight. We capitalized on stolen bases to help us get into scoring position."

Mays also went 2-for-2 with a double as Ironton had five hits. Kelsey Bronson and Lindsey Mooney each went 1-for-3 while Jessica Weaver slugged a triple.

"We are making less errors, hitting the ball, and playing great defense," Fields said. "I have told the girls that is how we win games. It certainly feels good."

Ironton hosts Rock Hill on Monday, Fairland Tuesday and travels to Ashland, Ky., on Thursday.
