Lady Dragons offense comes to life

PROCTORVILLE - The pitching was still there. The defense was still good. But there was something different about the Fairland Lady Dragons.
Oh, yeah. They had some offense.
Fairland had seven hits to back the 3-hit pitching of Megan Auxier as the Lady Dragons beat the Spring Valley Lady Timberwolves 5-2 Thursday.
Auxier struck out six and did not walk a batter as she went the distance to get the win. Marie Stewart went 3-for-3 to lead the 7-hit attack.
"Megan threw pretty good. Spring Valley hit the ball, but we made the plays. Megan didn't walk anyone and that was big," Fairland coach Leroy Baise said. "But we finally started hitting the ball and that was the difference."
After Spring Valley scored twice in the top of the second inning, Fairland came back to score three times in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good.
Ashley Ward and Jennifer Legg walked and Danielle Jordan singled in a run. Beth Schlegel sacrificed the runners up a base and Mandy Clark delivered a two-run double.
Fairland got a run in the fifth when Marie Stewart singled and Auxier tripled to extend the lead to 4-2.
The final Fairland run came in the sixth inning.
Jordan was safe on an error, went to second on a ground out, and scored when Stewart singled.
Fairland, 3-2, hosts South Point Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
