ARGILLITE, Ky. - It's an opportunity for train enthusiasts to toot their horns - literally.
The 22nd annual Tri-State Model Railroad Show will be March 19-20 at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park.
The train show is sponsored each year by the Collis P. Huntington chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. Organization member Dale Smith said the two-day affair will include a half
dozen operating layouts of various sizes and train gauges, collectibles, books, toys and railroad memorabilia.
"Last year was so good, we really didn't think there was anything to tweak," Smith said. "All the displays last year will be back this year and most have been updated. We'll probably have more dealers."
The displays take up space throughout the interior of
the park's Jesse Stuart Lodge and one display is set up outside: For the second year, a steam engine will be set up in the upper level parking lot for rides. Fifty feet of track has been added this year, making the ride longer. Rides on the steam train are free for adults and children.
Children, Smith said, are usually drawn to the circus train. The 12-by-20-foot section of rail is the setting for a colorful train surrounded by circus tents and animals.
"It's very colorful," Smith said. "It's on the floor and we leave room in front of it so the kids can sit and just watch it."
Admission and parking are free. The event draws people from all over the Tri-State. Approximately 4,000 are expected to attend the event. The train show hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
