Grand jury indicts two for recent church burglaries

Two people arrested late last year in connection with more than a dozen church break-ins have been indicted by a Lawrence County grand jury.

According to information from the office of

Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier, Misty Curtis, 21, of 203 Second St. East, South Point, was indicted on one count of second-degree felony complicity to burglary and 18 counts of fifth-degree felony breaking and entering. Her alleged co-conspirator, Paul Robert Crum, 26, of Huntington, W.Va., was indicted on one count of second-degree felony burglary and 18 counts of fifth-degree felony breaking and entering.

Both Curtis and Crum were arrested in December 2004 and charged in connection with incidents at local churches that occurred between Nov. 16 and Dec. 5, 2004. In those incidents, electronic equipment

was stolen. Some of this equipment was later discovered at pawn shops in Ashland, Ky., and Charleston, W.Va.

Two people arrested in connection with a string of fires at a Scottown residence were also indicted.

Ferlin Workman, 44, of 1834 Township Road 82, Proctorville, was indicted on one count of misdemeanor criminal damaging, two counts of second-degree felony aggravated arson and two counts of fourth-degree felony arson.

His alleged co-conspirator, Kathy Knight, 35, of 980 State Route 218 Scottown, was indicted on a misdemeanor count of

complicity to criminal damaging, two counts of second-degree felony complicity to aggravated arson and one count of fourth-degree felony complicity to arson.

They are accused of setting fire to an elderly Scottown man's house, boat, outbuilding and camper. These incidents occurred in November 2004.

Others indicted were:

4Jessika Orlando, 21, Huntington, W.Va., 13 counts of fourth-degree felony theft of drugs. She is accused of taking more than 20,000 pills from the pharmacy where she worked between May 1, 2003 and June 22, 2004. The list of allegedly stolen pills included Hydrocodone, Loratab and Vicodin.

4Charles Stephen Gwinn, 55, 314 County Road 115, Chesapeake, four counts of fourth-degree felony gross sexual imposition. The incidents occurred between September and November 2004 and involved a girl under the age of 14.

4Delver E. Mullins, 44, 1834 Township Road 82, Proctorville,

one count each of fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property and fourth-degree felony disrupting a public service.

4Eric Carmon, 28, 1738 County Road 415, Pedro, one count of second-degree felony attempt to commit aggravated burglary.

4Maurice L. Barber, 28, Columbus, one count of third-degree felony carrying a concealed weapon.

4Kyle O. Newman, 33, 204 Township Road 287N, Chesapeake, one count of first-degree felony aggravated burglary with a firearm specification. He is accused of breaking into a Chesapeake residence Dec. 6, 2004.

4Dennis Davis, 31, 1710 County Road 10A Pedro, one count of fifth-degree felony domestic violence.

4Randy Phillips, 41, 94 Township Road 616, one count of fourth-degree felony theft from the elderly.

4Robert Hoke, 34, 305 Township Road 1105 Proctorville, one count of third-degree felony unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. The alleged incident involved a girl 14 years of age or under and occurred in August 2004.

4Otis Hogsten, 42, 26 Township Road 1377, South Point, one count of

fourth-degree felony grand theft, one count of fourth-degree felony assault on a peace officer, one count of second-degree felonious assault and one count of misdemeanor assault.

4Fred Aldridge, 24, 1923 S. Fourth St., Ironton, one count of fifth-degree felony domestic violence.

4Christopher Adkins, 26, one count of second-degree felony burglary.

4William David Bullock, 49, Ashland, Ky., one count of second-degree felony burglary and one count of misdemeanor menacing by stalking.

In addition, the grand jury returned three secret indictments. The grand jury met Thursday and Friday of last week.
