PORTSMOUTH - When the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings get their engine running, there is no parking gear.
The offense wasn't sharp early, but the Lady Vikings picked up momentum as they rolled past the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans 70-23 Monday in an Southern Ohio Valley Conference game.
Symmes Valley was up 13-4 at the end of the first quarter, then scored 26 points in the second quarter to build a 39-15 halftime cushion.
"We got off to a slow start, but after the first four minutes into the game our players found their rhythm and never looked back," Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said.
"We had a good rebounding night with a total of 52 and we had 17 steals. The girls have worked hard on not turning the ball over too many times."
The Lady Vikings were led by Tiffany Bryant with 13 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots. Rebecca Capper had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Emily Bowling added 10 points and seven rebounds.
"Tiffany Bryant had a wonderful night. We've been waiting for Tiffany to break out and tonight she did," coach Bryant said.
The lead grew to 57-22 after three quarters and the Lady Vikings defense limited the Lady Titans to just one point in the fourth quarter.
Symmes Valley (10-3, 7-2) hosts Portsmouth East Thursday in a key SOC game.
"I told our kids they control their own destiny. We have a tough four-game homestand against East, Green, Clay and Western, but our girls are focusing on one game at a time and we do not want to get caught looking ahead," coach Bryant said.
