The Lawrence County Commission Wednesday approved a price quote for the repair of the Farmview Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Marcum Pump Equipment, of Chesapeake, offered a price quote of $49,600 to install new pumps and electronic controls at the plant. It was damaged in September by flash flooding along Symmes Creek.

Doug Cade, office manager for E.L. Robinson engineering said he hopes repairs can begin this week or early next week.

The project is being paid for through Ohio Public Works Commission emergency fund monies. The total cost of the project is $63,318.

"Is there any way we can prevent that plant from flooding again in the future?" Commissioner George Patterson asked.

"There is a need for that out there," Cade said. "But it can not be done with emergency fund monies. … It is essential. It's right there by the creek." Cade suggested the commissioners investigate whether they could obtain and use flood mitigation monies for flood prevention measures at the waste water treatment plant.
