It's crunch time for playoff contenders.
The final two weeks of the regular season will determine which teams
on the "bubble" will qualify for the Ohio High School Athletic Association postseason playoffs.
Ironton, 8-0, has already clinched a playoff spot and a home game. A win against Belfry would virtually assure the Fighting Tigers of first place in Region 15 of Division IV.
The list of potential playoff opponents is long and includes Wellston, West Muskingum, Westfall, Indian Valley, Granville, Belmont Union Local and even Portsmouth West.
Current favorites to place anywhere from 6-8 are Wellston, West Muskingum, Westfall and Granville.
Chesapeake, 6-2, is seventh in Region 19 of Division V and can probably lock up a playoff berth by winning its final two games against Rock Hill and River Valley.
If Chesapeake finishes seventh and Wheelersburg second, it could be a rematch of last season only this time the homefield will belong to the Pirates.
Symmes Valley, 6-1, can take a giant step closer to a home game with a win over Portsmouth East on Friday. A win would also give the Vikings the SOC title outright for the third straight season.
If the Vikings are fourth, they would host either Beallsville, Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans or Lancaster Fisher Catholic.
It would be the first home game in the playoffs for the Vikings.
