FRANKLIN FURNACE - Cory Burcham had a break out game and the Symmes Valley Vikings broke loose on the scoreboard.
Burcham rushed six times for 104 yards as the Vikings toppled the Green Bobcats 41-13 Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
"I thought our kids played hard. This is by far Cory Burcham's best game. The last few weeks he's started to get on track," Vikings coach Rusty Webb said. "I also thought the offensive line did an outstanding job. They've gotten better the last couple of weeks."
The offensive line is comprised of center Eli Bowling, guards John Wiseman and Alex Burnett, tackles Jon Dillon and Mark Ashworth, and ends Derrek Cremeans, Michael White, Bo Otsby and Seth Saunders.
Vikings quarterback Craig Neal threw for 94 yards and ran for 30 more as the Vikings racked up 396 total yards.
"Even though we don't throw the ball a lot, Craig Neal has really improved and we're going to need that down the road," Webb said. "Justin Holland did a tremendous job blocking out of the backfield and he did some tough inside running that opened up the outside."
The defense limited Green to 130 total yards and all the Bobcat points came in the fourth quarter against the reserves.
"I can't say enough about our defense. It played extremely well," Webb said.
Burcham showed his versatility by returning a punt 66 yards for a touchdown, then kicked the point after for a 7-0 lead.
He came back with a 27-yards scoring run that extended the lead to 14-0 midway through the first quarter.
Neal capped the next scoring drive with a 13-yard run and it was 21-0.
Symmes Valley moved in front 27-0 on a 6-yard run by Derek Carpenter to start the second half.
Burcham took a toss and and turned it into a 56-yard scoring play as the lead went to 34-0.
Carpenter had his second touchdown run late in the third quarter as he scooted 12 yards to make it 41-0.
Green, 2-4 and 0-2, avoided the shutout on a pair of touchdowns by freshmen running backs James McGuire and Wes Bailey. McGuire ran 6 yards for a score and Bailey bulled over from 2 yards out.
Symmes Valley is 4-1 and 2-0 in the SOC. The Vikings have a showdown at Lucasville Valley next Friday in a game that could determine the league championship.
