State and local law enforcement agencies continue investigating the unexplained death of an Upper Township man that was found Friday morning.

John Turvey, 45, of 960 County Road 103 (Ellisonville Ridge Road) was found dead at his home by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Friday at approximately 9:30 a.m. Maj. Jeff Lawless said the cause of the death is still under investigation, but homicide or foul play have not been ruled out.

"Upon our arrival, we found a male subject deceased in the kitchen area," Lawless said Friday. "We began an investigation into the situation. We have called for assistance from the (Ohio) Bureau of Criminal Investigations and (Identifications)."

Lawless said BCI would not typically be called if the case appeared to be an obvious suicide.

More than a dozen friends and family members gathered at the driveway entrance to Turvey's home and struggled to cope with the tragic news.

Though all were too hurt, angry and confused to comment, their love for Turvey was evident.

"He was the best man I have ever known," one friend said to a sheriff's deputy.

"John did not have an enemy in the world," another man said.

Maj. Lawless said he did not believe anyone else was home at the time of death.
