The Lawrence County Sheriff Tim Sexton said deputies received a call from representatives at the Foodfair on State Route 7 that vandals had used neon green paint to deface the exterior of the store, a shopping buggy, a plant stand and the parking lot.

A car was also spray painted.

Deputies located the suspects a short time later in the parking lot of a nearby church and took them into custody. At the time of his arrest, Michael Sexton scuffled with deputies, and then scuffled with corrections officers when taken to the Lawrence County Jail. One corrections officer did require medical treatment. Deputies alleged that all four suspects appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of their apprehension.

Sheriff Sexton praised some local citizens who witnessed the incident and gave information to the deputies who investigated the vandalism.

"Their assistance was willingness to become involved was very beneficial to this quick apprehension of four suspects," Sexton said.

All four suspects will likely be arraigned today in Lawrence County Municipal Court in Chesapeake.
