Summer been easier to bear

If it seems this summer has been cooler than usual, you're correct - just barely.
Kari Fleegel, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Charleston, W.Va., said temperatures so far this summer have been slightly cooler than normal.
"The normal high temperature for July is 85, with a minimum of 65. We were just below average last month with an average high of 84.2 and a low of 65.2," Fleegel said. "In June, the normal high is 81.7 with a minimum of 60.9 and we were just barely below in June (this year) with an average high of 80.8 and a minimum of 61.7."
Fleegel said the way in which we've received rainfall this year could account for this summer feeling cooler and more comfortable: This year the Tri-State has experienced more small storms and few large ones and this affects humidity.
Fleegel said the real difference between this year and last year is the amount of precipitation the area has received.
Fleegel said rainfall this summer is approximately 1 inch below normal.
"Last year was a super wet year for Charleston and the Huntington area," Fleegel said. "It was the second wettest on record with 56.87 inches recorded in Huntington."
That was considerably above the normal amount of 42.31.
What can we expect for the remainder of the month of August? Fleegel said look for normal temperatures and rain fall.
