Everyone is invited to get on the AARP's expressway to knowledge Thursday.

AARP Ohio's Voter Express will roll through Ironton Thursday providing senior citizens and any other interested citizens with one of the most important tools before the November election - information.

The van will be in the parking area at Central Christian Church, 1541 S. Seventh St., from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. AARP volunteers will provide voter registration information, absentee ballot information, updates on federal and state legislation that affects Ohioans and allow visitors to sign up for presidential voter guides that will be mailed later this year.

Key legislative issues of interest to seniors include the Medicare prescription drug plans and Social Security.

"Ohio is a battleground state in the upcoming election, making it all the more important that voters have the facts they need to use their power and vote on Nov. 2," South Point AARP volunteer Ann Lemley said in a written statement.

"Voters need more than sound bites, they need to know where candidates stand on issues most important to them. We are encouraging voters to ask questions, get answers and vote."

Refreshments, giveaways and door prizes will be provided to make the event fun as well as informative.

"(People) will go away with a lot of information that they can really research and study," Lemley said Monday. "They can sit down and get answers to some of their questions about the Medicare drug laws and on voting issues."
