If you happen to look at the college football preseason magazines and think you're seeing a familiar face, you are.
Ironton's Jason Harmon will join teammate Ronald Stanley on the cover of Athlon Sports magazine. The Big Ten edition is due to hit the newsstands Monday, June 7.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound redshirt senior defensive back was honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2003 and is expected to be one of the conference's top players this year.
Despite playing strong safety, Harmon led the Spartans in tackles last season with 102 and missed the last two games with an injury. His athletic abilities and leadership qualities were key reasons Athlon decided to put Harmon on the cover of its magazine.
"Harmon is a solid player, and coach John L. Smith will no doubt rely on him to be a team leader," Athlon managing editor Charlie Miller said.
Last season against Illinois, Harmon stripped the ball from Illini running back Pierre Thomas and scored on a 52-yard fumble return with 6:29 to play, his first collegiate touchdown.
Harmon had eight tackles in the game including one for a 3-yard loss and was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
In 2002, Harmon shared MSU's Outstanding Underclass Back Award along with 2002 Biletnikoff Award winner and first round draft pick Charles Rogers.
Athlon has published a college football magazine the past 37 years, starting in 1967.
