SOUTH POINT - Rice was right.
Jennifer Rice pitched a four-hitter as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers slipped past the South Point Lady Pointers 1-0 Monday in the Division III sectional tournament.
Rice, who missed the first part of the season with a broken foot, struck out 13 and walked three in getting the win.
"She threw pretty well. South Point swings the bats pretty good, so she had her work cut out for her," Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice said.
The game's only run was unearned and scored in the sixth inning.
With two outs, Joanna Delimpo reached on an error. Brittany singled to put runners at first and second, a passed ball moved the runners up, and then Brandi Kirk was safe on a dropped fly ball allowing Delimpo to score.
Chesapeake, 12-6, will play Thursday at Rock Hill.
South Point, which had a seven-game winning streak heading into the game, finished 14-9.
