COAL GROVE - It was a South Point sweep.

The South Point Pointers and Lady Pointers both came away with wins Tuesday at the Coal Grove Giovanni's Pizza Invitational.

The boys racked up 127.5 points to edge Chesapeake, which finished with 119 points. Ironton was third with 63, followed by Jackson with 62 and Rock Hill with 61.5 points.

In the girls meet, South Point put together 112 points to outdistance Ironton which had 68 points. Next was Rock Hill with 66, Jackson 59.5, Fairland 54.5, Chesapeake 54, Coal Grove 47, Wellston 26 and Spring Valley, W.Va., 25.

Quentin Smith and Chris Smith were double winners for the Pointers. Quentin Smith was first in the high jump (5-10) and the 110 hurdles (16.1). Chris Smith won the shot put at 51-2 and the discus with a toss of 139-3.

Ironton's Derique Bacon won the 200 meters (23.1) and the 400 (52.4).

Rock Hill's Matt Thornton won the long jump (21-1.25) and 100 meter dash at 10.9 seconds, a new school record.

There were no double winners in the girls meet.

South Point took two individual first-place finishes and won two of the four relay events.

The Lady Pointers got wins by Jessi Craft in the high jump and Sarah Lee in the long jump.
