SOUTH POINT - Even when the South Point Pointers aren't at their best, they still seem to find a way to win.
The Pointers were not on top of their game but managed to beat the Rock Hill Redmen 6-1 and remain unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Seth Craft got the win as he allowed just three hits and struck out seven, but he walked nine. The Pointers had eight hits but only two of their runs were earned.
"We didn't get any key hits and left runners on early," Pointers coach Kevin Milem said. "Seth struggled with his control, but he kept battling."
South Point is 7-6 on the season and leads the conference at 5-0.
Rock Hill is now 3-8 and 0-5 in the OVC.
"We hit the ball, but we hit it right at them. We had people on base in every inning but one. We just couldn't come up with the key hit," Redmen coach Barry Litteral said.
South Point got a run in the first inning with two outs as Craft doubled and Corey Smoot singled.
Rock Hill tied the game in the top of the third inning.
T.J. Blagg singled to open the inning, moved up on a ground out and came home on a hit by Justin Lavender.
In the bottom of the inning, Wes Patterson walked, Caleb Copley got a bunt single and Dale Kinney had an RBI single to put the Pointers up 2-1.
The lead went to 3-1 in the fifth with an unearned run.
Craft was safe on a wild pitch third strike, moved up on a wild pitch and came home on Kinney's second RBI single.
South Point got three insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Justin Smith was safe on an error, stole second, took third on a throwing error and scored on a base hit by Calvin Robinson. Tyler Staton walked and Copley had a two-run single.
Kinney was 2-2 and Copley 2-4.
Nathan Wagner took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs.
