RACELAND, Ky. - The backup really stepped up.
Kristen Clausing pitched a three-hitter to lead the Fairland Lady Dragons to a 1-0 win over the Raceland Lady Rams Tuesday in a non-league game.
Clausing filled in for regular pitcher Megan Auxier and came away with a masterpiece.
"We gave Auxier a rest and gave Clausing some work. She didn't do too bad, did she? She stepped up and pitched a good game for us," Fairland coach Leroy Baise said.
The only run of the game scored in the second inning.
Kelly Curry singled, moved up on a passed ball, went to third when Erika Smoot flied out and came home when Kate Nida hit into a fielder's choice.
Megan Fisher and Curry each went 2-3 for the Lady Dragons.
Fairland, 7-2, plays at River Valley Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
