SOUTH POINT - If the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers were a camera, they'd need a new auto focus lens.

The lens didn't stay focused the entire game, but it let in enough light that the Lady Tigers were able to down the South Point Lady Pointers 60-49 Wednesday.

Ironton was guilty of 23 turnovers, seven in the first quarter as it scored just six points. But Ironton coach Amy Hughes was more concerned with the defense.

"I don't know what it is," Hughes said. "We came out and had a bunch of unforced turnovers, then played really well on both ends of the floor and got a big lead.

"But then we lost our focus again and had a bunch of turnovers. Even with our turnovers, the most disappointing thing was the defense. We let them score 39 points in the second half. That should never have happened."

Jessi Craft scored all eight South Point points in the first quarter, including a 15-footer with five seconds on the clock that made it 8-6.

Ironton (10-4) then went on a 13-0 run to begin the second quarter and the defense held South Point to one field goal attempt until Jamie Moore's 15-footer at the 2:58 mark.

Sara Hacker's 19-footer, Andrea Rudmann's 3-pointer, and a short jumper by Danielle Henderson extended Ironton's lead to 26-10 at the break.

The Lady Pointers closed to within 32-25 on a 3-pointer by Alisha Bridges with two minutes on the clock. Rudmann answered with a crippling dagger as she hit a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 10.

Rudmann hit another 3-pointer before Bridges scored three points and it was 38-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

Hacker's 3-pointer got Ironton started in the final quarter. South Point got within 43-33 only to have Henderson and Hacker make two free throws each.

Hacker and Henderson had back-to-back layups with 2:50 left as the Ironton lead went

to 56-39.

Rudmann finished with a game-high 25 points. Hacker had 15 points, five rebounds and five steals. Boykin had eight points, five rebounds, six assists and five steals. Sarah Cartmell had seven rebounds.

Craft had 19 points and six rebounds for the Lady Pointers (4-9). Bridges had 13 points and Amy Frasure came off the bench to for 10 points.

In the reserve game, South Point won 33-16 as Missy Wheeler scored 13 points while Ashley Porter and Vanessa Rogers had eight each. Rachel Walker led Ironton with six.
