Lady Panthers use balance to beat Greenup

LLOYD, Ky. - The Chesapeake Lady Panthers like to spread it around. That's why they were able to spread it on thick.

Putting 10 players in the scoring column, Chesapeake pounded the Greenup County Lady Musketeers 55-34 Thursday.

The Lady Panthers led by 36 points heading into the fourth quarter as they won their second game in as many outings.

"We've been saying all along that every night it's someone different," Lady Panthers coach Chad Belville said. "We had seven different players score the first half. That makes it tough for people to defend. And it didn't matter who we went to on the bench."

Noelle Wood scored 12 points to lead the balanced offense. Lisa Perry had 11 points and seven assists.

"Perry got us out and running. Their coach was impressed with our quickness and how hard we ran. Our speed frustrated their girls," Belville said.

Perry scored 7 points including a 3-pointer and handed out three assists the first quarter as Chesapeake ran out to a 19-0 lead and was up 19-1 at the end of the quarter.

Belville, who has been sick the past couple of days, was relieved the Lady Panthers put the game away quickly.

"I told the girls before the game that whatever you do, play well tonight and let me set back and suffer. They went out and played well," Belville said. "We made a conscious effort to jump on them early and our girls did a great job. That's about as well as we can play."

Joy Mayenchein and Wood scored 4 points each the second quarter as the lead grew to 35-8 at the half. Brittany Boyle and Wood combined for 10 points the third quarter as the lead ballooned to 53-17.

"(Baise) played extremely well. She and Dickerson are our two most improved players. It's huge for us to have another post player to throw at people," Belville said.

Chesapeake hosts Portsmouth Monday.
