WAVERLY - The Chesapeake Panthers lost Tyler Marcum early, then quickly found Tristin Clark.

After losing Marcum to an injury, Chesapeake inserted Clark who promptly ran 10 times for 144 yards and a touchdown to lead an awesome ground game as the Panthers toppled the Waverly Tigers 28-13 Friday.

The Panthers had 306 yards rushing led by Clark and Cody Hunt who added 117 yards on 16 attempts and scored two touchdowns.

Hunt had a 35-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.

Clark had a 33-yard run to set up his own 65-yard gallop for a touchdown that put the Panthers up 14-0.

The lead grew to 21-0 late in the half when Finley hit Caleb Robbins with a 6-yard touchdown pass.

Waverly managed to score just before the half on a 10-yard run by Justin Kritzwiser and closed the gap to 21-7.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Chesapeake extended its lead to 28-7 to begin the fourth quarter as Hunt had a 2-yard run that capped a long scoring drive.

Waverly came back with a 3-yard scoring run a couple of minutes later by Kritzwiser, but the Panthers defense took over as Chesapeake evened its record to 2-2.

Kritzwiser led Waverly (0-4) with 59 yards on 12 carries while Bryan Martin added 44 yards on seven attempts.
