Golf scramble to benefit senior programs

It is a chance to show off your golf swing and raise money for a community cause at the same time: The Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization is having its first-ever golf scramble.

The money will benefit the CAO's senior programs, such as the senior centers at Sybene and the Park Avenue Apartments, delivered meals, transportation programs and respite care.

"We're hoping to raise between $5,000 and $7,000," CAO associate planner David Michael said. "As with most government-subsidized programs, funding is shrinking. This is a way for the community to not be so dependent on ever-shrinking public funds. The senior programs serve a tremendous need in the community."
