PEDRO -- It was 50 years ago that the Rock Hill Redmen enjoyed an undefeated season.
And 50 years later, it remains the only unbeaten season in the school's 53-year history.
The 1953 Rock Hill Redmen football team plans to remember and celebrate the school's only perfect season with a reunion to be held during the July 4th weekend.
A reunion party will be held from 7-11 p.m. Friday, July 4, at the South Point Grandview Inn. The annual potluck dinner from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the Rock Hill Middle School will honor the 1953 team.
John Scott, the starting left offensive tackle and defensive nose guard, said almost every player, manager and cheerleader will attend the reunion.
One player, starter Bill Roth, is deceased but his seven children plan to attend.
"Bill was a very good player," Scott said.
The 1953 team posted a 9-0 record in which it outscored the opposition 300 to 47.
One of the wins was a 2-0 forfeit over Chester. The Redmen routed Oak Hill the week after Oak Hill had blasted Chester. The Chester school officials called Rock Hill and canceled the game.
"They said they didn't have many players and they couldn't afford to get any of them hurt," Scott said.
