Normally, Kevin Pruitt is hard at work and has his hands in ink at the Printing Express.

For the grand opening of the store's new location Monday, the store's press operator of three years had his hands full of shrimp, which he said was the favorite of what he and the other employees were treated.

"I don't know, the ham rolls weren't that bad either," he said, laughing.

The Ironton business has moved from its location at 313 S. Third St. to 1229 S. Third St. and opened its doors to the public Monday. It has moved into to a location formerly occupied by East End Hardware.

"It's working very well. We found that this building was available, and it was perfect for us," owner Jenny Mays said.

Setting up the new business only took two weeks.

"All we had to do was paint it and put carpet down," Mays said.

Mays said the Printing Express has not hired any new people, but may do so later. With the new location having more room, she said she hopes to expand services. Traditionally, it has been more business-oriented, but she now hopes to offer more services to the general public. The new location has a table in which a person can look through wedding and graduation announcements.

During the grand opening, Mays also proudly displayed a mural of Johannes Gutenberg and the first printing press, painted by the store's graphic artist Jamie Wheeler.

The store's employees are also looking forward to working in the new building.

"The new building is very spacious; the old one was kind of crammed," Pruitt said.

David Hamm, a press operator for 15 years, said his work area not only has a loading door, but also has air conditioning in the back.

"It'll be much more comfortable," he said.
