Semi-tractor driver involved in fatal crash indicted by grand jury

A

semi-tractor trailer driver involved in a fatal accident in Chesapeake late last year has been indicted by a Lawrence County grand jury.

Clarence E. Vess, 74, of Loundonville, was indicted on one count of vehicular homicide. Vess was involved in an automobile accident in September 2002 with an car driven by Joel Maynard of Prichard, W.Va. Maynard was killed in the accident, which occurred in an Ohio Department of Transportation Highway maintenance zone on State Route 7.

A Chesapeake man accused of smuggling drugs into the Lawrence County jail was also indicted by the grand jury. Brian K. Booth,

25, of 3244 McKinney Creek Road, now faces a charge of illegal conveyance of weapons or prohibited items onto the grounds of a detention facility or institution, and deception to obtain dangerous drugs.

He was arrested Sept. 23, 2002, at the Lawrence County Jail when he allegedly tried to pass pills to his wife, Stephanie Booth, who was an inmate. Stephanie Booth was in jail awaiting transfer to prison after being convicted a month prior on drug charges.

Others indicted were:

4Joshua Culp, 27, 204 Vernon St., Ironton, aggravated burglary, assault and intimidation.

4Daniel Bryant, 21, 102 Leona St., South Point, complicity to aggravated burglary and assault.

4Alberta Jane Sullivan, 40,

Huntington, W.Va., theft of checks, forgery.

4Teresa Forrest, 42, 740 Marion Pike Coal Grove, theft of drugs.

4Floyd C. McCann, 47, 38 Pidgeon Hollow Road, Ironton, failure to appear, a felony.

4Shawn D. Brown, 33, 200 Rockwood Ave., Chesapeake, driving under the influence of alcohol.
