Raceland nips sluggish Ironton

RACELAND, Ky. - Like an old, worn out tire, there was not enough air in the Ironton Fighting Tigers.
"We were about as flat as you can be," Ironton coach Mark Lewis said after the Fighting Tigers lost 6-5 to the Raceland Rams Monday.
"Matt White pitched a pretty good game and he hit the ball pretty well, but with a few exceptions, we didn't do much as a team. We didn't come ready to play and it showed."
White (2-4) struck out seven and did not walk a batter in pitching a six-hitter. However, he did hit four batters.
"In White's defense, the four hit batsmen weren't bad pitches. Their batters crowded the plate and leaned into the pitches," Lewis said.
Ironton (10-7) scored three runs in the top of the first inning.
Derek Moore and Tyler Whaley singled and both scored on White's double. White took third on the throw home and scored on a wild pitch.
Raceland (9-7) got a run back in the bottom of the first on two hit batsmen and a base hit by Tolliver.
The Rams took the lead with three unearned runs in the second inning.
The leadoff batter reached on an error, but White struck out the next two hitters. Another hit batsman and a two-out double by Pelfrey tied the game. Roark followed with a single to drive in the go-ahead run.
The Fighting Tigers tied the game in the third when Moore doubled and White had a two-out base hit.
Ironton took the lead with a run in the fourth.
Jeff Parnell doubled with one out, went to third on Greg Mountain's sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch.
But Raceland tied the game with an unearned run in the sixth.
With two outs, Bonzo was safe on an error, stole third, and came home on a throwing error.
The Rams won the game with two outs in the seventh inning.
Pelfrey singled, was sacrificed to second, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on VanHoose's two-out single.
White went 3-3 and drove in three runs. Moore was 2-4.
