The annual Child Welfare Club spring luncheon was hosted Thursday at The First Church of the Nazarene in Ironton.
The club members this year raised money for the organization's new scholarship endowment fund at Ohio University Southern. The annual luncheon provided some of the funds for the new scholarship.
"We had a record-breaking amount of take-out orders this year," said Nancy Corn, club president. "We have worked especially hard this year with our luncheon to help with our scholarship endowment with OUS."
In addition to the money raised from the lunches, the club also raised money for its scholarship fund through a raffle for a Longaberger Basket.
Treva Wilson of Marlinton, W.Va., formerly of Ironton, said that she has come to the luncheon for about 30 years. "The club is a very good cause and I really enjoy the luncheons," she said. "It's worth it to come here each year."
The Ironton High School Singers provided the music for this year's event.
The Child Welfare Club was established in 1919 and supports educational projects such as the Eddy, Freshie and Academic Excellence Awards.
