FORT MYERS, Fla. - Jason LaRue tagged an otherwise sharp Pedro Martinez for a two-run home run Wednesday and Sean Casey added two hits as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Boston Red Sox 6-1.

In his final tuneup before opening day, Martinez dominated the first four innings, facing the minimum 12 batters. He hit leadoff hitter Felipe Lopez, but got Aaron Boone to hit into a double play and retired 10 straight after that.

But Martinez, who finished with nine strikeouts and no walks, stumbled in the fifth, giving up a double to Brandon Larson, an RBI single to Casey and the two-run homer to LaRue.

''I made one mistake where the cutter got away from my fingers,'' Martinez said. ''That was it.''

After the game, Martinez said he was aware of no progress in contract extension talks. He has said he won't play in Boston in 2005 if the team doesn't pick up his $17.5 million 2004 option before the end of spring training and sign him to a new contract.

Jimmy Haynes pitched five solid innings for Cincinnati, allowing five hits and no runs and striking out two.
