Dead legs left the St. Joseph Flyers for dead.

Coming off a tough, emotional win Saturday against Symmes Valley, the Flyers couldn't overcome hot-shooting South Gallia as the Rebels took a 67-58 win Tuesday night.

"Our legs were dead. We didn't play with much emotion," Flyers coach Adam Simpson said. "And South Gallia just didn't miss. They were on fire. It was just one of those games where everything just went against you."

St. Joseph (7-9) was ahead 22-17 when the Rebels used an 8-point play to take the lead for good.

South Gallia scored inside and a foul was called along with a technical foul for slapping the backboard.

After making the foul shot and both technical free throws, the Rebels got the ball on the inbounds play and hit a 3-pointer to complete the 8-0 run.

"You could just see their confidence rise after that 8-point play. They got hot and couldn't miss," Simpson said.

Jason Merrick had 6 points in the third quarter as South Gallia extended its lead to 47-33.

Shawn Hacker scored 9 points and Matt Hornbeck had 7 as St. Joseph got within 58-54. But the Rebels finished the game on a 9-4 run.

"When they needed a big basket, they got it. It was just one of those nights. They shot the lights out," Simpson said.

Hacker led the Flyers with 21 points and 23 rebounds. He also blocked seven shots.

Hornbeck finished with 15 points, and Chris Laber had 11 points. Danny Stack had five assists and four steals.

Merrick scored 23 points, Josh Waugh 17 and Zeph Clary 12 to pace South Gallia (7-10).
