It’s quite a team, and three area players are a big part of it.
The Associated Press announced its Division IV All-Ohio boys high school basketball team Wednesday and three area players were honor.
Named to the team were Ironton St. Joseph’s Bill Dressel, Green’s Jacob Yarnell, and Symmes Valley’s Drew Hunt.
Dressel, a 6-foot-2 senior guard/forward, led the way with a first team selection.
The Southeast District Player of the Year, Dressel averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.3 rebounds and steals a game. He shot 46 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range, and 71 percent from the foul line.
Yarnell, a 6-2 senior, led Green to a surprising Southern Ohio Conference championship. A first team all-district pick, Yarnell was special mention All-Ohio as he averaged 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds a game.
The 6-foot Hunt, a junior, was honorable mentional All-Ohio after being voted second team all-district. He averaged 20.2 points and 8.0 rebound a game.
Reedsville Eastern’s Howie Caldwell was one of five men selected as Coach of the Year. John King of Bristol and Matt Witt of Tipp CIty Bethel were Co-Players of the Year.
