The club meets on the first Monday of the month, club president Kathleen Plybon, said and provides an outlet for artists to meet, receive tips and converse with their fellow artisans.

According to Mary Jo Palmer, the group’s historian, the club was founded in 1975 in order to "promote the fine arts through local artists" in the area.

In addition to the monthly meetings, Plybon said, the group sponsors several art shows throughout the year. In the past, the club has sponsored art shows on the Lawrence County Courthouse lawn and, last year, the group had an art show in the City Center during the IronMaster’s Day celebration.

The group also has several workshops in that discuss the medium in which the artist’s work, including, pastels, oils, watercolor, charcoal, and colored pencils.

In addition to the workshops, club members take their turn showing off their own artwork to their fellow artists. Members offer a critique of the artwork and offer suggestions on how to achieve the effects the artists want.
