"I feel honored," Boggs said about his appointment. "I think the people in southeast Ohio need someone to represent them in a way that,s positive."

Boggs will serve his one year term through Dec. 31 of this year, filling a recent vacancy on the regional committee. The committee determines policy for the region and plans programs and activities designed to carry out the purposes of the organization, the OSBA states. The executive committee meets four times a year, with the first scheduled for February.

The most important thing about the committee, and serving on it, is that state board leaders also attend the meetings, Boggs said.

"It creates an open dialogue," he said. "If a local school board member in Lawrence County has a concern, I could take that with me and maybe we (the executive committee) could come up with a solution."

It’s good for the state board to get out and about because of the meetings, and find out about the southeast region,s concerns, he added.

Boggs will meet with Paul Mock, regional secretary of the committee, soon; then attend his first meeting.

"This is a way to further communication, and I look forward to expressing some of all our county boards, concerns."

Boggs, who was appointed to Dawson-Bryant,s board a year ago, and won an elected term this past November, has a master’s degree in theology and is a registered nurse and registered respiratory therapist. He lives in Coal Grove.

Dr. Jim Payne, superintendent of Dawson-Bryant schools, called Boggs, appoint a "prestigious" honor, for him and the district.

The school system’s proud of him and looks forward to the extra benefit of having local representation to the OSBA, Payne said.

Boggs is the only school board member in Lawrence County to currently serve on the regional executive committee. But, there is one member from Scioto County serving, he said.
