SOUTH POINT – Two players. Two teams. Two dominant performances.
Saturday’s doubleheader between the South Point Pointers and Wheelersburg Pirates ended as a split, thanks to the Pointers Jamie Douglas and the Pirates Michael Branon.
Douglas was the dominant player in the opener as he pitched a 4-hitter, struck out eight, and walked three in a 10-0 five inning mercy rule win.
At the plate, Douglas was 2-for-2 to lead a 9-hit attack. Brian Cremeans also went 2-for-2, and Justin Eaches and Jarred Perdue were 2-for-3.
The Pointers went in front 2-0 in the first inning.

Douglas then singled, took second on a passed ball, and scored on a hit by Eaches.
The lead grew to 5-0 in the third.
Perdue reached on an error, Cremeans singled, Holsinger was safe on an error to load the bases, and Douglas hit a sacrifice fly. Eaches singled and J. D. Sullivan delivered a two-run single.
A run scored in the fourth when Perdue reached on a fielder’s choice, went to third on a throwing error, and raced home when Cremeans singled.
The Pointers applied the mercy rule with four runs in the fifth inning.
Douglas singled, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball, Scott Johnson was hit by a pitch, Brandon Primm walked to load the bases, and Nick Clay was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Perdue spanked a two-run single, Cremeans walked, and Holsinger’s base hit delivered the final run.
the tables were reversed in the second game as the Pirates won 14-4 in five innings.
Branon took over in the second game as he pitched a 7-hitter, struck out two and walked five in the five-inning contest.
Branon carried the big stick offensively as well as he went 2-for-3 with a triple, a grand slam home run, and five runs batted in.
Seth Morrison was 2-for-4 with a double while Michael Perkins and Adam Conn both homered.
Both teams got on the scoreboard in the first inning as Wheelersburg took a 3-2 lead.
Michael Perkins walked, Lance Davis singled, Branon hit into a fielder’s choice, and Conn clouted a 3-run homer.
The Pointers answered with a pair of runs when Perdue was hit by a pitch, Cremeans singled, Holsinger squeezed home a run, Douglas walked, and Sullivan was safe on an error.
Michael Perkins homered in the second to make it 4-2, but the Pointers got a run back when Perdue singled, Cremeans put down a sacrifice bunt, and Holsinger had an RBI single.
The Pirates erupted for eight runs in the third inning to blow the game wide open.
Morrison singled and Myers, Joe Perkins, and Michael Perkins all walked to force home a run. Davis was hit by a pitch to send home another run and then Branon unloaded his grand slam home run and it was 10-3.
