Ironton had eight hits, half coming in an eight-run fifth inning that propelled the Fighting Tigers to the win.

"We want to be aggressive. We can’t sit and wait for things to happen. We need to get into an attack mode and get it in our minds we can’t let up," said Ironton coach Mark Lewis.

Josh Harmon, who pitched the first four innings to get the win, went 2-for-5 at the plate and drove in four runs. Greg Mountain went the final three innings to notch the save.

Mark Mains was 2-4 with two runs batted in, Chad Parker 2-4 with an RBI, and Jon Sites drove in two runs.

Russell (0-2) got a run in the first when Matt Frazier singled, went to second on a balk, and scored on Noah May’s error.

Chris Clark hit a solo home run in the second and three walks, a hit batsman, and an RBI single by Noah May gave Russell a 3-0 lead in the third.

With two outs in the fourth, Jimmy Peyton singled, Parker doubled, and a wild pitch scored Peyton as Ironton got within 3-1.

The Fighting Tigers big rally started with one out.

Matt Johnson walked, moved up when Clark Cooper’s sacrifice bunt was misplayed for an error, and Drew Mains walked to load the bases.

Harmon doubled home two, Mains singled in a pair, and Jon Sites two-run singled.

Peyton walked and Parker hit an RBI single. Matt White walked and Mark Mains smacked a two-run single.

Two walks and singles by Justin Evans and Todd Malone got Russell within 9-6.

But Ironton answered with two runs of its own.

Mark Mains singled, Matt Johnson and Drew Mains walked, and Harmon had a two-run single.

May walked and Mike Gabbard homered in the bottom of the seventh, but reliever Greg Mountain shut down the Red Devils and saved the win.

Ironton hosts Gallipolis at 5 p.m. Friday.

PROCTORVILLE – Stuart Shepherd struck out 14 batters as he fired a three-hitter to lead the Fairland Dragons 5-3 win over the River Valley Raiders Thursday.

The game was called after 5 1/2 innings due to darkness.

"When he’s getting his pitches down, he can be very effective," Fairland coach Roger Snyder said of Shepherd. "If it wasn’t for some passed balls, he would have had a shutout."

Fairland (1-1) had seven hits led by J. W. Jones who went 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in. Kyle Leadmon and Matt Roy each drove in a run.

The Dragons play at Wahama, W.Va., at 5:30 p.m. Friday in a game to be played under the lights.
