Columbus – Two of the top players in the Ohio Valley Conference are two of the top players in the state. Rock Hill’s Michelle Matkins and Chesapeake’s Kati Fuller were named Tuesday to the Associated Press All-Ohio girls basketball teams.
Matkins, a 5-foot-8 senior, was named to the Division II second team while Fuller, a 5-9 senior, was a Division III third team choice.
Matkins had 19.0 points a game, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, shot 48 percent from the field and 83 percent from the line.
Fuller, a 5-8 senior, averaged 19.2 points a game, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.8 steals.
South Point’s 5-1 sophomore guard Noel Mains was a Division II All-Ohio honorable mention as she averaged 20.4 points per game, 5.0 assists, 5.0 steals, and shot 46 percent from the field and 83 percent at the line.
On the Division III All-Ohio honorable mention list were Ironton’s Jessica Ensor and Fairland’s Ashley Harris.
Ensor, a 5-7 junior guard, averaged 13.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 8.1 steals, and 3.7 assists.
Harris, a 5-10 junior, posted 11.9 points and 10 rebounds a contest while shooting 56 percent from the floor.
Caity Matter was named the player of the year in Division III for the second straight year, while three players shared the top honor in Division II.
Philo’s Heather Harris, Tanya Ross of Medina Buckeye and Kelly Kapferer of Jefferson Area were the players of the year in Division II.
The Division II coaches of the year were Jessica Smith of Columbus Bishop Hartley, Medina Buckeye’s Steve Borgis and Rick Creager of Springboro.
In Division III, Richard Kiser of Sardinia Eastern Brown and Dennis Lee of Bluffton, along with Brooklyn’s Jim Verba were the top coaches.
