SOUTH POINT – Coach Tracey Mullens had her Rock Hill Redwomen on upset alert. Evidently, they saw the warning lights.

Rock Hill knew that South Point wouldn’t be an easy game since the Lady Pointers had upset Chesapeake and nearly upset Portsmouth in less than a week. So Mullens warned her team not to let down against the underdog.

"They’re waiting to upset people," said Mullens. "We knew we had to be ready and that we had to play well. Any team on any given night can win in the OVC. We just have to play a strong game every game."

The Redwomen will need a couple of more strong games this week. Rock Hill is now 12-2 overall and remains atop of the OVC race at 4-0, but the Redwomen have two crucial games in three days as they play at Chesapeake Thursday and host Fairland at 1 p.m. Saturday.

"Those will be two tough games," said Mullens.

Bobbi Clark had 17 points and 11 rebounds while Michelle Matkins got 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Redwomen. Jordan Edwards added 10 points and six rebounds while Amanda Mays had five assists and five steals.

Noel Mains had 23 points for South Point, 15 coming in the fourth quarter.

"Mandy McDonie played real good defense on Noel," said Mullens. "Mays and Jordan Edwards had good all-around games, Michelle shot the ball well, and Bobbi had a real good game underneath rebounding the basketball.

"But all the girls are playing their role well. Lisa Hacker’s defense off the bench really helps."

Matkins scored six points the first quarter as Rock Hill went up 18-6. Clark had six and Miranda Edwards and Mays five each the second quarter as the Redwomen blew the game open at 40-13.

Jordan Edwards scored six the third quarter to extend the lead to an insurmountable 58-18 lead at the end of the quarter.

Clark and Matkins had five points each early in the fourth quarter before Mullens emptied her bench.

Rock Hill shot 47 percent from the field.

Fairland 71, Chesapeake 46

PROCTORVILLE – Forget the poor shooting and inability to score the first time the Fairland Lady Dragons played the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.

A 36-29 loss and only four points in the second half plagued Fairland in the first meeting, but this time the Lady Dragons had little trouble scoring as they routed Chesapeake 71-46 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Jeana Diamond scored 18 points, Ashley Harris 16, and Brooke Fisher 12 as Fairland ran its record to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the OVC, one game behind Rock Hill.

Fairland hosts Coal Grove Thursday and then plays at Rock Hill in a 1 p.m. game Saturday.

Chesapeake (9-6, 2-3) was led by Erin Sutphin with 19 points. Kati Fuller added 10.

The Lady Dragons raced to a 20-7 lead the first quarter before Chesapeake rallied to close the gap to 34-30 at the half.

But Fairland took over the third quarter by holding Chesapeake to four points and building 51-34 cushion.
