Now, because of the rigors created from treatment of colon cancer and other health problems due to a stroke, Mr. Schultz has drawn the curtain on the daily strip. The Tribune is continuing to publish vintage Peanuts’ strips and will do so for the foreseeable future.
The Sunday color comics still continue through early February as Mr. Schultz already had completed those through that date before he became ill.
It truly is a dark and stormy night now that Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy and Linus are heading into retirement.
These simple characters and their day-to-day activities have brought a smile to most of us during even the darkest of days.
Now, we face the difficult task of finding a replacement comic strip for Peanuts. All of us at the newspaper have spent hours pouring over the possibilities, with all the choices coming up short in comparison to our beloved Snoopy, Charlie Brown and friends.
While we narrow the search for a new comic strip, we need your help.
If you have an idea of a strip that you would like to see added in place of Peanuts, please drop us a line and let us know. Please send your suggestions to me in care of The Ironton Tribune, P.O. Box 647, Ironton, Ohio 45638, or email me at jennifer.allen@irontontribune.com.
After we receive your comments, we’ll run sample comic strips in the newspaper and on our web site www.irontontribune.com and let you vote on which one you like best.
We realize no one can replace Peanuts – those shoes are far too big for any comic strip. However, we want to pick the strip the majority of our readers prefer.
Please let us know your preference.
Jennifer Allen is publisher of The Ironton Tribune.
