The Lawrence County Courthouse closed this morning due to a power failure, but is expected to reopen Wednesday.
Employees arriving for work noticed power problems, said Dick Lang, the county commission’s director of human resources.
American Electric Power was notified and found problems in underground lines between transformers at the jail on Fourth Street and the courthouse building, Lang said.
"They say it’s a short between there and over here," he said. "We have a little power on now, but once they pull out those lines we won’t."
County officials decided to close offices during the repairs, although estimates are that power will be restored by 2 p.m., Lang said.
"We decided to close the building all day just in case, but plan to be open tomorrow," he said.
