The three pro golfers might have thought it would be an easy round until they ran into the Washburn family.

At the Western & Southern Financial Group Charity golf event Saturday at the Ironton Country Club, the team featuring three pro golfers needed to go into a playoff in order to beat the Washburn family of Bill and sons Brian and Brad.

Harold Wallace, who won three events on the Hooter’s Tour, Randy Jewell, who spent three years on the Nationwide Tour, and Shawnee Golf Course club pro Tyson Phillips were pushed to the limit in the three-man event that raised money for the Ironton Little League baseball fields.

Both teams finished at 12-under only to have Wallace’s team win with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

The Washburns had a three shot lead with five holes to play but could manage only one birdie and four pars. Wallace’s team scrambled to post four birdies and a par down the stretch to force the playoff.

The winning team’s prize was $600.

John Large of Western & Southern Financial Group said next year’s tournament will offer a first place prize of $1,500.
