If members of the Lawrence County Drug And Major Crimes Task Force look bleary eyed and dead on their feet, they have good reason: They rounded up 18 people in a county-wide drug sweep this week; five more people remain at large.
Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr., said the people arrested were allegedly primarily involved in oxycodone trafficking; the pills came from pain clinics in Florida and Georgia.
The roundup is the result of months of undercover work to make solid cases against the people arrested, Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said.
“I know sometimes people see things in their neighborhood and think nothing’s being done but we are working,” Lawless said.
