Ohio State freshman defensive end Nathan Williams has been charged with shoplifting at a suburban Dayton mall, but he says he was taking the blame for someone else.
The 19-year-old from Washington Court House was arrested Wednesday after being accused of shoplifting three shirts valued at $80 from the Macy’s department store in the Mall at Fairfield Commons.
He says he was with a friend, and that the alarm went off as they left the store. He says his friend told him he had the three shirts, and Williams agreed to take the shirts and the blame.
Williams says the friend has been in legal trouble before and could have gone to jail if charged with shoplifting.
If convicted of the first-degree misdemeanor, Williams could face up to six months in jail.
