The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings don’t worry about style points.

The Lady Vikings overcame 26 turnovers and some poor shooting to beat the Eastern Lady Eagles 38-36 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“A win is a win, but there was nothing pretty about it. We could not get our offense rolling tonight, but with the shots that did go in we were pretty balanced,” said Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant.

“Both teams struggled offensively tonight as well as turning over the ball way too many times. We had just got our turnovers down to 12 in our last game and we turned around and gave it up 26 times tonight.”

The Lady Vikings were just 12 of 46 from the field for 26 percent.

The games was tied at the end of the first quarter at 13-13, but then took a 22-19 halftime lead.

Eastern closed to within 29-27 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Vikings clutched up in the fourth quarter.

Nikki Nance hit a key 3-point goal and Chelsea Wall went 4-of-4 from the line over the final minute of the game to seal the win. She converted 5-of-8 free throws in the final quarter.

“”Every night we have a different person step up and make a difference in the game,” said Bryant. “Tonight it was Chelsea Wall. Her four free throws were huge.”

Wall led the Lady Vikings with nine points and also had four rebounds. Jessie Morris scored eight points while Haily Pelletier grabbed five rebounds.

“We did not rebound well at all tonight and our defense was not as aggressive as we have been in the last five games, but we hung in there and never quit and got the win,” said Bryant.
