The South Point Lady Pointers were like an automobile engine on a below zero morning.

The Lady Pointers had trouble getting their engine started Thursday in the Spring Valley Invitational semifinals, but once they did they were clicking on all cylinders.

South Point trailed 10-8 after the first quarter, then stormed back to take a 51-34 win over the Tolsia Lady Rebels.

“We came out really flat and (Tolsia) played well. We just picked it up defensively (in the second quarter) and got into a transition game,” said Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams.

With Ericka Leighty and Kayla Fletcher scoring six points each and all five starters scoring in the second quarter, South Point built a 28-19 halftime lead.

Tinesha Taylor got six points in the third quarter as South Point extended its lead to 40-27.

The Lady Pointers defense held Tolsia to single-digit scoring in the final three quarters and just 15 points in the second half as they improved to 4-0 on the season.

“We played really well the second half. We held them to five field goals. We played well except for the first quarter,” said Adams.

Fletcher led a balance offense with 14 points to go with five steals. Leighty scored 12 and grabbed 13 rebounds while Taylor had 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

Kara Pollinger led Tolisa with 12 points, eight coming in the first quarter as she hit a pair of 3-point goals.

South Point will face Spring Valley at 8 p.m. in the championship game on Saturday.
