The third time — or quarter — was the charm.
The Gallipolis Blue Devils used a big third quarter to regain the lead and beat the Rock Hill Redmen 49-37 Tuesday.
“We were doing a good job of going the basket and that’s what got us the lead,” said Redmen coach Adam Simpson.
“But Gallipolis did a good job of taking that away in the second half and forcing us to take different shots. You have to give them some credit.”
Dustin Chandler hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter but Rock Hill trailed 11-6.
Sam Cooke scored seven points and Brandon Klaiber four as Rock Hill rallied to take a 20-19 halftime lead. Kyle Mitchell had all eight of Gallipolis’ points in the quarter.
The Redmen (2-4) were up 28-24 with three minutes left in the third quarter, but Chris Armstrong had eight points and Mitchell scored six as Gallipolis came back to take a 38-28 lead.
“Other than that three minute span in the third quarter, we played well,” said Simpson.
Klaiber scored seven more points in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Blue Devils.
Klaiber led the Redmen with 15 points and Cooke had 13.
Armstrong had 16 and Mitchell 14 for Gallipolis (2-2).
