Lady Hornets split volleyball matches

COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets had upset on their minds and they almost put it on the court.
In four tightly contested games, the Lady Hornets fell to the South Point Lady Pointers Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball match.
The Lady Hornets started well as they took the first game 25-14, but then South Point came back to win the next three sets 25-20, 25-22 and 25-21.
Marissa Stevens was a bright spot for the Lady Hornets with 23 points.
In the reserve match, South Point won in three sets 22-25, 25-20 and 25-18.
On Wednesday, the Lady Hornets took a straight sets win over the St. Joseph Female Flyers 25-11, 25-18 and 25-21.
Ashley Adkins led Coal Grove with 16 points.
In the junior varsity match, Coal Grove used 20 points by Abby Harmon to win 25-12 and 25-16.
On Thursday, Coal Grove entertains River Valley in a conference match while St. Joseph hosts Ironton at 5:30 p.m.
